For two days, Wambugu Farm ATC in Nyeri became a meeting point for farmers, agricultural professionals, distributors, and seed companies. For Royal Seed, the event was more than an exhibition—it was an opportunity to put our varieties in front of farmers, demonstrate their performance in the field, and have real conversations about what farmers need.
With a well-established demonstration plot, visible crop boards, a branded exhibition space, and our mobile tuk-tuk shop, Royal Seed had plenty to show and discuss with farmers throughout the event.
Seeing the Difference in the Field
One of the biggest attractions was the Royal Seed demonstration plot. The crops were well established and gave farmers an opportunity to see the varieties growing under practical field conditions rather than simply seeing them on a seed packet.
The plot featured a range of vegetables, including Pretoria F1, Jabali F1, Sukuma Matumbo, Kale Thousand Headed, Fordhook Giant, Pinoy, Super Yali, Balta F1, Nyota Beans, Nantes Carrots, and many more.
The clearly visible crop boards made it easy for farmers to identify individual varieties and move from one crop to another while discussing maturity, crop characteristics, market requirements, and production practices with the Sales and Technical teams.
Cabbages That Caught Farmers' Attention
Pretoria F1 and Jabali F1 were among the standout cabbage varieties in the demonstration.
Pretoria F1 is a heat-tolerant hybrid cabbage with heavy compact heads, maturing in about 75 days from transplanting. It is suited to medium- to low-altitude areas and has excellent field holding capacity.
Jabali F1, meanwhile, offers heavy, compact semi-dome heads, with the current RoyaL Seed specifications indicating 5–6 kg head weight and a 75-day maturity period. It is suited to medium- to high-altitude areas and has tolerance to Fusarium wilt, Yellow Leaf Virus, and Black Rot.
For farmers looking for options beyond the familiar green cabbage, the demonstration also provided an opportunity to explore other varieties in the Royal Seed cabbage range.

From Kale to Fordhook Giant
Leafy vegetables also formed an important part of the demonstration, giving farmers an opportunity to see different options for both household consumption and commercial production.
Kale Thousand Headed, Sukuma Matumbo, and Fordhook Giant added variety to the leafy vegetable section and created useful discussions around continuous harvesting, market demand, and choosing varieties suited to different farming needs.

Balta F1: A Sweet Pepper Built for the Market
The Balta F1 sweet pepper was another variety that attracted attention in the demonstration.
Balta F1 is a blocky hybrid pepper that turns red at maturity. It produces large, firm, thick-walled fruits averaging around 230 g, with an average fruit size of approximately 11 × 10 cm. The plant has strong vigour, good foliage cover, and continuous fruit
For farmers considering sweet pepper production, seeing the crop in the field provided a more practical starting point for discussions on crop establishment, fruit quality, and production.

More Choices for Farmers
The demonstration also featured Nyota Beans, Nantes Carrots, Pinoy, Super Yali, and other varieties, giving farmers a broader view of the Royal Seed portfolio.
Nantes Carrot, for example, is known for its cylindrical shape, rounded tip, deep orange colour, and approximately 110-day maturity.
The event also provided an opportunity to showcase maize and beans, including RS 5101 and Nyota Beans, as part of Royal Seed's broader crop portfolio.

More Than a Demo Plot: Our Mobile Tuk-Tuk Shop
The Royal Seed mobile tuk-tuk shop added another practical element to the event. Instead of farmers only viewing varieties in the demonstration plot, the mobile shop brought seed products directly to the event, giving customers an opportunity to explore the available products and engage with the Sales team.
It also provided a highly visible and memorable way of presenting the Royal Seed brand to farmers moving around the exhibition.
Greene Agricultural Products Joins the Conversation
The Wambugu demonstration also created opportunities for Greene Agricultural Products to engage farmers.
Flowers planted at the demonstration area attracted interest and gave the Greene team an opportunity to discuss flower-related products, while the Greene exhibition space also provided a platform to showcase peat moss and vermiculite.
This brought seed, propagation, and crop production solutions closer together and created opportunities for conversations beyond seed selection.
When the Crop Does the Talking
One of the strongest aspects of Wambugu Farm ATC 2026 was the opportunity for farmers to see crops rather than simply hear about them.
The well-grown demonstration plot gave the Sales and Technical teams a practical starting point for conversations. Farmers could point to a crop, ask questions, compare varieties, and discuss what could work for their own farms.
For Royal Seed, this is at the heart of “Let's Grow Together.”
The event also provided valuable insight into farmer preferences, with the Sales team noting particularly strong interest in OPV varieties during this year's exhibition.
A Stronger Connection Between Seed and Farmer
The success of the Wambugu Farm ATC Field Day came from bringing together quality seed, practical demonstrations, technical knowledge, sales support, and marketing.
The strong farmer turnout gave the team opportunities to introduce new customers to Royal Seed, strengthen relationships with existing customers and distributors, gather farmer testimonials, and understand what farmers are looking for.
