In a bold and deliberate move towards energy independence, Kenya Highland Seed Co. Ltd has transformed how Royal Seed Complex — its flagship agricultural hub in Athi River — is powered. Over the past 792 days, the complex has been running on a state-of-the-art solar energy system, generating a cumulative total of 21.56 megawatt-hours of clean electricity. Far from a symbolic gesture, this transition represents a carefully planned operational shift driven by the realities of rising energy costs, the need for reliable power in agricultural production, and a genuine commitment to environmental responsibility. Royal Seed Complex is now one of the most compelling examples of solar adoption in Kenya's agribusiness sector.
